Fancy Green
diamonds are even more rare than fancy blue diamonds. The most common cause of their green color is lattice defects resulting from radiation damage through contact with radioactive materials. However, nitrogen, hydrogen, and nickel defects in the carbon lattice can also produce green hues. All these defects cause the absorption of specific wavelengths of visible light, resulting in the green coloration. The largest and most famous natural green diamond is the 41 ct. "Dresden Green", housed in the Green Vault in Dresden.
